About 2600 years ago, the Prince Siddhartha renounced his worldly life to search for the ultimate solution to human sufferings. After six years of ascetic life, he finally reached enlightenment and found the way to end suffering. From there on, he spent 49 years giving teachings to benefit sentient beings.

Three Main Paths of Buddhism Lineage
  • The path of Southeast Asia is roughly associated with Theravada Buddhism – the basic vehicle or foundational vehicle.
  • The path through mainland China and east Asia (Korea and Japan) is roughly associated with Mahayana or Bodhisattvayana Buddhism – the great vehicle.
  • The path of Tibet is roughly associated with Vajrayana or Tantrayana Buddhism.
